Joan Harrison has gained widespread recognition and experience in human resources services in British Columbia as both consultant and practitioner. She specializes in group and individual development, providing career development and transition programs, confidential personal coaching/problem-solving & team building facilitation.

Joan established and developed effective new Human Resources departments and services with a variety of BC clients, including Navigata Communications, and Smythe Ratcliffe Chartered Accountants. She has provided HR policy guidance and consulting services to organizations in both private and public sectors. Prior to establishing her own firm, Human Resources Services, she served as the lead Partner for KPMG’s Human Resources Consulting for BC, and as a Principal with The Hay Group, following ten years in industry where she established the first HR Department for The Bentall Group of Companies.

Active in the community and the HR profession, Joan has served on the Board of InspireHealth (Integrated Cancer Care), is a past Chair of the Foundation Board of BCIT, and served on the Boards of Governors of BCIT, the Vancouver and National YWCAs, the Downtown Vancouver Business Improvement Association, The Vancouver Stock Exchange, The Millenium Line, and the campaign cabinet of The United Way of Greater Vancouver. She is a Past President and Honorary Life Member of the BC Human Resources Management Association, and served as BC representative and Executive Secretary for the Canadian Council of Human Resources Associations (CCHRA), working toward national HR standards for Canada. She was selected to travel on a Canadian Human Resources delegation to China in 2008.

Joan is a graduate of the University of British Columbia with a B.Com. in Organization Behaviour & Industrial Relations, and has a diploma from Hamilton Teachers’ College. She has been a Certified Human Resources Management Professional (CHRP) since its inception, and was awarded a Fellow CHRP in 2010 for exemplary contributions to the advancement of the HR profession in Canada.
